This one is from 2015. One of those short no-reason scripts you have lying around for five years that you don't know what to do with and forget about, because it was something weird that you wrote in 20 minutes. Showed it to Chad, then he did all the hard work with graphics to make it nice and weird. Jason Beaumont shot it in his building's basement with a green screen. For all of our long projects, these ones are nice to turn around in less than a week. Do you have some crappy Scotch lying around that someone gifted you? Make it drinkable in this tutorial from America's drinkheart Dan Peff.
Be the hit of the party with this mixologistophisticated cocktail, the Hairy Kumquat. Brought to you by America's drinkheart Dan Peff. Second live session video from the basement. Shot by artist extraordinaire Israel Balza. Big thanks to our friend Sean Flannery for popping in. . PICK ONE FOR ME - Well, this one has been a long time coming. My producing partner Chad Wilson and I finished this in 2014 and had some great screenings in Chicago, including the Chicago Comedy Film Festival. Been busy, meant to put it out there after a round of festival submissions, and then got busy with life stuff, and kind of actually kept forgetting/procrastinating. I had had the idea for this floating around in my brain for probably close to 10 years. Inspired by an event from an ESL class I was teaching. So I played it out. Paul Tinsley, the star of this, is so talented and so great to work with. You'll recognize him from some other things. Joette Waters plays his wife, and is phenomenal as well. The always killer Mike Lebovitz bookends it, and it is always an honor to work with the lethal Anthony Oberbeck, Saurin Choksi, and CJ Sullivan. Jason Beaumont not only DP'ed this, he played the French horn parts, which are incredible. Countries represented by actor and extras here are Eritrea, Iraq, Azerbaijan, El Salvador, Mexico, Panama, India, and Russia (I think that's all...) And thanks to Roxana Chirila for translating! Here's the first of hopefully many live laundry room sessions. This one we submitted for the NPR Tiny Desk contest. Thanks for Israel Balza for some great camera artistry and to Marz Timms for being Marz Timms.
Dan Peff goes to NYC this month. A Real Good Drinking episode screens at Brooklyn Web Fest, and Dan will also be doing a set at UCB East on Friday night.

This one was a fun one to knock out. That summer Chad Wilson and I had just finished releasing our web series Ped Crossing, which had practically turned out to be a short movie that took 2 1/2 years of nights and weekends. So when I was asked to make something short to screen at JFL Chicago, it was like lifting a light weight to shoot something over a weekend and have it ready to go in a week. There are more stories to tell you at the bar, but this video is near and dear to me. Thanks to Anthony Oberbeck, James Fritz, Candy Lawrence, and Sherman Edwards for their silent acting skills, and Mike Andersen for recording. |
